What is TURLg ?

The History of 70 years of TURLg (also see the complete dossier - in French, but with images and a video)
The Royal University Theatre of Liège was founded in 1941. It has been honoured by the "Royal" title since 2002.
About one hundred persons are active members (actors, directors, technicians...), performing principally in French of course, but also German, English, Walloon..., 75% of them being students.
Since its creation, the TURLg has presented a rich and wide repertoire - more than 130 plays - going from the Greek Classics over Shakespeare, Machiavel or Molière to the most contemporary authors and collective creations as well.
The TURLg is a well known guest in many international festivals: it has been touring in more than 30 countries on 4 continents, from Lithuania to Portugal, from Jordan to the Netherlands, from Senegal to Mexico (see Les tournées du TURLg). Its very visual and dynamic performances always cross the barrier of language with success.
Since 1983, the TURLg has been organizing every year in Liège a world famous International University Theatre Meeting (RITU): about 150 groups from more than 30 countries have been programmed up to now (see : lien Venus chez nous). Those events are also the occasion for symposia in international theatrical research.
In 1994, the TURLg became the official seat of the International University Theatre Association (IUTA/AITU).
Besides its numerous theatre productions, the TURLg also runs many workshops for different ages, from 5 years old up to adults.
